Green alpine pastures, crystal-clear waters and of course countless majestic mountains make the Allgäu around the popular holiday resort of Hopfen am See a magical place. The most beautiful and interesting mountains that await you during your holiday in Hopfen are presented in more detail below.

Säuling

The 2047 metre high Säuling, which is considered Füssen's local mountain, is hard to miss with its striking silhouette, which resembles a pyramid. Located in the Ammergau Alps on the border to Austria, the mountain not only looks impressive, it also demands a lot from its visitors. Thus one should already bring along a little bit of fitness and experience in mountain hiking, for example to march on the route over the Säulinghaus to the summit. There one is then rewarded with a breathtaking view of the Füssener Seenland and the royal castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau. According to an old legend witches use by the way the summit plateau as dance floor.

Tegelberg

The 1881-meter Tegelberg near Schwangau is a popular family and excursion mountain in the Hopfen am See area. It is accessed by the Tegelbergbahn, which takes visitors from the valley station, where there is a summer toboggan run, up to the top station at 1720 metres above sea level. Here a panoramic restaurant and the Tegelberghaus, which is the former hunting lodge of King Maximilian II, invite visitors to stop for a break and enjoy the beautiful view of the surrounding countryside. Numerous paths at Tegelberg also make it possible to hike in the picturesque mountain world, offering unforgettable views of Neuschwanstein Castle from close up. Hang- and paragliding is also popular at Tegelberg. In winter, the mountain is home to a family-friendly ski area with varied pistes and cross-country ski trails. So the Tegelberg offers really varied leisure fun in the middle of a wonderful scenery.

Falkensteinkamm

This mountain range between Füssen and Pfronten is home to several attractive destinations for excursions. For example, the 1270-metre-high Falkenstein near Pfronten is home to the ruins of Falkenstein Castle, one of the most interesting sights in the Allgäu. The exposed height of the castle alone is impressive. This is what fairytale king Ludwig II once thought, who bought the castle without further ado to turn it into another fairytale castle in the style of Neuschwanstein. However, his death in 1886 prevented the project from being realised. Today, the ruins of Falkenstein Castle are nevertheless a popular destination for excursions, offering a fantastic view of the wide Allgäu region.

Also part of the Falkenstein ridge is the 1293-metre-high Salober, which is home to the Salober-Alm, one of the most popular mountain huts in the region. It can be easily reached from the mysterious Alatsee lake, which is a popular excursion destination in itself.

Alpspitz

Also always worth a trip is the 1575-metre high Alpspitz near Nesselwang. It is made accessible by the Alpspitzbahn and is home to a beautiful hiking and skiing area. At the foot of the Alpspitz there are two popular family excursion destinations: a summer toboggan run and the Alpspitz-Bathing Centre Nesselwang.

In addition to the presented mountains, there are many other interesting peaks around Hopfen am See that invite you to hike, climb and mountaineer.
